If you are looking towards retirement and have some spare funds lying around, waiting to be invested, then perhaps you should consider taking out a home investment loan.
If you can provide enough money so that you need only take out a minimal home loan, then you may be able to purchase a property and rent it out to cover the home investment loan repayments. As long as you haven't needed a significant amount of the value of the property, you may begin to see rent making a reasonable return, or else resell the property in the currently booming property market.
